T10 Spinal Cord Injury/ Rocky River, Ohio

Shannon’s life changed in the blink of an eye one July evening in 2015. While stopped at a gas station to fuel up, she was shot four times and left paralyzed from the waist down. She spent the first month of her hospital stay in a medically-induced coma.

The doctors told her family that she most likely would not survive. Miraculously, she stabilized and surgery was performed to repair her spine. However, the doctors were unable to remove the bullet and placed titanium rods in her spine to help support her.

She spent the next 3½ months in the hospital rehabilitation unit coming to grips with the fact that she was now paralyzed. Her focus shifted to learning how to live as independently as possible as a paraplegic. While in the hospital, Shannon learned about Buckeye Wellness Center and the work it does with spinal cord-injured individuals.

Getting Back Up is proud to support Shannon with an exercise-based therapy scholarship to Buckeye Wellness Center in Valley View, Ohio.
