A beautiful summer day on the lake with friends, turned into an unimaginable nightmare, when Maridee dove into the water. Suddenly, a force, either from the floor of the lake or the surface of the water, snapped her neck. She awoke in a hospital bed, unable to move anything below her neck.
It was at that moment she thought her life was over and she would be bound to a wheelchair, unable to ever do any of the outdoor activities that brought so much joy to her life.
However, thanks to a determined attitude and rigorous therapy schedule, Maridee has continued to improve her physical body. Today she is able to sit upright unsupported, and apply light pressure with her feet. These are just two worthy accomplishments on a list of what she hopes will one day be full of so many more.
Getting Back Up is proud to support Maridee with a scholarship to continue receiving the therapy she needs at SCI-FIT in Sacramento, California.
