C5 Spinal Cord Injury / Hebron, Indiana

A certified auto technician who specialized in mechanical, painting and framework for vehicles damaged in accidents, Fred experienced his own auto accident in 2006. As a passenger in a car, Fred was struck by another vehicle which caused the car he was riding in to roll several times before pinning him under its collapsed roof.

The accident caused his 5th vertebra to burst and fractured his 3rd, 4th and 6th vertebrae. The spinal cord was compressed and pushed slightly to the left, immediately leaving him paralyzed. Several surgeries and grueling months later, Fred was now left to try to rebuild his life just like the cars he used to rebuild.

Since his injury, Fred has made remarkable progress thanks to an aggressive therapy program at Next Steps of Chicago. However, he has had to rely solely on the financial support of his family since insurance does not cover his therapy.

Getting Back Up is proud to support Fred with a scholarship to continue receiving the therapy he needs at Next Steps of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois.
